Habitat for humanity restore DIYs

It’s no secret I love DIY’s, when I have a project in mind the first place I turn to is my local Habitat for Humanity Restore. To be honest I could spend a whole day in there getting lost, and inspired by all the goodies they have to offer. There really is nothing better than knowing that, when I shop there, I’m giving back to my community. So I thought it would be fun to take you all along with me on a trip to my favorite restore.

The first place I always head to is the art section, if I can’t find a good art piece, I know I’ll find amazing frames.

Here are some of the things I’ve used the frames for.

They are so versatile and simple, yet make a big statement in your home, and I love how you can use them for all seasons.

The next place I have to check out is their old spindle section.

These spindles are great to pick up for a simple diy project like I did here We turned spindles into candle sticks! Here’s how we did it.

First we cut the spindle right above the grove, then we took a 3/4 inch spade bit and carved out a hole about half an inch down like this. Next I painted them with some chalk paint and just like that we had farmhouse inspired candles .Now I don’t want to overload you with DIYs but here is one last idea. Most restores have a selection of old cabinet doors, you really could do so much with these but my favorite is a quick tray as seen above with my candle sticks.

For this project all you need is a cabinet door and two drawer pulls. I again used chalk paint for the cupboard door and then I spray painted the pulls with a matte black spray paint. Once the paint was dry I attached the pulls on each side of the cupboard. Here are some ways I’ve styled this tray. img_2616-1.jpg

Isn’t is adorable? I hope you have enjoyed this posts, but most of all I hope it inspires you to check out your local Habitat for Humanity Restore.
